IPAF’s ePAL App Surpasses One Million Downloads Globally

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), in partnership with construction technology leader Trackunit, has announced a major milestone: the ePAL app has now been downloaded over one million times worldwide.

Launched in June 2021 and developed by Trackunit, the ePAL app has experienced rapid growth. It reached 500,000 downloads by December 2023 and exceeded one million by July 2025. The app is transforming safety and compliance practices on construction sites through digital innovation, changing how operators access and use equipment.

In addition to serving as a digital wallet for operator licenses and certifications, ePAL now fully integrates with Trackunit's Bluetooth-enabled access management system. This allows users to securely unlock machines directly through the app, ensuring only verified and qualified personnel can operate equipment. The app also helps users build a complete operator profile—including licenses, qualifications, and machine usage history—perform guided pre-use checks, unlock equipment digitally, and automatically record work activities

"Reaching one million downloads is a significant achievement and reflects the aerial work platform industry's trust in ePAL as an essential safety tool,” said Peter Douglas, CEO of IPAF."The app has exceeded all expectations since its introduction in 2021. The accelerating adoption rate clearly shows the industry is embracing digital transformation.”

“As we continue working with our partners to eliminate worksite risks, the next phase of ePAL will play an essential role,” Douglas added. “We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Trackunit and introducing new innovations that further improve safety for operators and personnel working at height.”

As ePAL continues to expand, IPAF and Trackunit are shifting their focus from individual MEWP operators to the broader contractor ecosystem. The goal is to further integrate the app into daily site operations for improved safety and efficiency.

Søren Brogaard, CEO of Trackunit, commented:" With the latest version of ePAL, we're improving equipment access through digitization. Automated workflows and digital logs have replaced manual input, reducing human error and encouraging safer on-site behaviors. Although the construction industry is still progressing in its digital journey, the widespread adoption of ePAL and its growing functionality demonstrate how quickly the sector is evolving.”

According to Brogaard, the newly released ePAL 3.1 version integrates seamlessly with Trackunit On, enabling contractors to embed safer and more compliant machine access directly into their daily work. This represents a shift from manual safety checks to a digital-first access control system, reducing errors and building a stronger, connected safety culture on sites.

“We see an industry that is eager to adapt, learn, and enhance all aspects of its safety protocols,” added Brogaard."Over the next three years, we are committed to strengthening our collaboration with IPAF, building on this momentum, and further accelerating digital adoption across the sector. Together, we will continue developing digital safety processes that integrate into users'daily routines and help deliver Zero Incident worksites.”

The ePAL app supports multiple languages and is used in more than 200 countries. It is available for download via major app stores. For more information, visit http://www.ipaf.org/epal.
